Mrs. Lynda Korsah is currently a practicing Benefits Specialist in Northfield Illinois managing an Older Adult Benefits Program that has information, and resources for older adults and families. She comes from an active career in city planning and community health that is the foundation for her recent role to provide social service support to older adults and families. As a benefits counselor, certified in the Senior Health Insurance Program (SHIP), she answers questions on Medicaid and Medicare components that cover healthcare options for older populations and families and helps people navigate benefits they may qualify for to bring much needed help to these individuals and families.
Lynda has a broad experience in Ghana and United States, covering city planning and development, environmental health and sanitation/public health and social services.
Lynda supplies direct aid in cash and in-kind to elementary school lunch programs and families in Ghana as a volunteer through a not-for-profit organization she founded.
Lynda is a former City Planner and Chief of Staff for the City of Chicago local government leadership. Prior to that she worked with AgeOptions, a nonprofit that supports and gives grants to social service agencies to help seniors get the benefits they need.
Lynda has a Master of Science in Urban Planning and Policy from Rutgers University in New Jersey, USA and a Bachelors in Development Planning from KNUST in Kumasi, Ghana. She moved on to a Master of Public Health at the University of Illinois in Chicago and worked in community health research at the University of Illinois with older populations. She later worked for the Department of Human Services providing assistance through social service work, helping individuals and families apply for benefits. She is currently a Dr.PH Candidate at Walden online University with a research interest in fall prevention among older populations.
Prior to her work in the USA, Lynda successfully directed initiatives that involved community level projects, on environmental health and sanitation solutions including recycling and clean air initiatives.
Lynda’s broad experience has the background that gives her the knowledge, diversity and insights to help others.
